We are always looking for fresh, young talent to add to the ranks of our rich musical legacy. However, we realize that the pursuit of education can be an expensive journey. To help in the educational endeavors of our band participants, we offer a limited number of Talent Grant Awards. Below you will find more detailed information:
Requirements for the Level I Grant
(award credited to one semester only)
-Must Participate in one of the following: Marching Band, Concert Band, Wind Ensemble, or Jazz Ensemble
-Auditions are held at the Director's discretion
-Must be currently enrolled at Morehouse College
-Must maintain a cumulative GPA of no less than 2.5
-Must satisfactorily attend rehearsals (special circumstances must be approved by the ensemble director)
-Must participate in Bandcamp
Requirements for the Level II Grant
(award divided between two semesters)
-Must participate in the Marching Band during the Fall semester (see previous section for terms of that ensemble)
-Must participate in the Jazz Ensemble or Concert Band during the Spring Semester (the terms of these ensembles are similiar to those of the Marching Band, except the participation in "bandcamp")
-Auditions are held at the Director's discretion
Requirements for the Level III Grant
(award divided between two semesters)
-Must participate in the Marching Band during the Fall Semester
-Must participate in the Jazz Ensemble during the Spring Semester
-Must participate in the Concert Band during the Spring Semester
(the terms of these ensembles are similiar to those of the Marching Band, except the participation in "bandcamp")
-Auditions are held at the Director's discretion
Requirements for The Presidential Scholarship in Music
(Full Academic Scholarship)
-Must participate in the Marching Band during the Fall semester (see previous section for terms of that ensemble)
-Must participate in the Jazz Ensemble during the Spring Semester
-Must participate in the Concert Band during the Spring Semester
(the terms of these ensembles are similiar to those of the Marching Band, except the participation in "bandcamp")
-Must be enrolled at Morehouse College
-Must first complete an audition before the Department of Music and a music theory placement exam to gain admission into the department as a Music Major to be considered for this award.
(note: This award is only offered once per academic year to an exceptional student chosen by the Music faculty)
*To be eligible for grants/ scholarships, students must have already completed a FAFSA and all of the necessary Financial Aid Applications. To begin this process, go to the "Interest Form" Section of the website and click on the "Financial Aid" link.
**Each Bandmember enrolled at Morehouse College is eligible for a Talent Grant Award, regardless of the student's major concentration of study. However, the Presidential Scholarship is only awarded to one student per academic year, who has declared Music as his major.
***Each grant recipient may be re-evaluated at the Director's discretion; Any student found to be in violation of the terms and conditions of the talent grant is subject to either a reduction or complete forfeit of the award.
****Students enrolled at Spelman College are also encouraged to participate in the Morehouse College Bands Program as well. For details, email the Director of Bands at: info@morehousebands.com.
